Assessment, Goal Setting and Reporting

Assessment

School House Canada conducts a thorough assessment of each student to ensure instruction begins at the right level and truly meets individual needs. By identifying each learner’s strengths, gaps, and learning habits, our tutors can design a targeted program that builds skills step by step without unnecessary repetition or overwhelming challenges. This initial assessment also creates a clear baseline, allowing teachers and parents to measure progress accurately over time. As students advance through their personalized learning plan, ongoing comparisons to this baseline highlight growth, celebrate achievements, and guide any needed adjustments. This thoughtful process ensures meaningful, measurable improvement for every student.

Setting Goals and Objectives

At School House Canada, assessment is an ongoing, structured process designed to build confidence, ensure true understanding, and clearly demonstrate student progress. Each learning objective is broken down into specific skills, and students begin with objective-based assignments that target these skills directly. These assignments include a variety of question types, so that every aspect of the objective is thoroughly covered. This variety not only keeps students engaged but also allows them to demonstrate their learning in multiple ways.

Throughout this process, students receive plentiful, timely feedback. Our tutors highlight strengths, pinpoint areas needing improvement, and provide clear guidance on how to correct errors. This approach ensures that learning is active and students always know exactly where they stand. The assessments at this stage are formative, meaning they are designed to support learning, not judge it. Students repeat and refine their work as needed until they feel confident and capable of performing the skill independently.

Success and Reporting

Once a student has demonstrated consistent success during formative practice, they are given a summative assessment. This final assessment measures mastery of the objective and confirms that the student can apply the skill reliably and accurately. The summative assessment serves as a clear benchmark of achievement.

Parents are kept fully informed throughout the entire process. Tutor Masters provides evidence of success at every goal post—sample work, assessment results, progress notes, and mastery checks, so parents can clearly see how their child is developing skill by skill. This transparent, supportive system ensures that every student progresses with confidence and clarity i a timely manner.
